PPG 17 Needs Assessments
WE ARE CURRENTLY UNDERTAKING NEEDS ASSESSMENTS AND ANALYSIS FOR SEVERAL COUNCILS
Our approach reflects the Government's policy objectives for open space, sport and recreation, as set out in PPG17. The long term outcomes PPG17 aims to deliver are:
Networks of accessible, high quality open spaces and sport and recreation facilities, in both urban and rural areas, which meet the needs of residents and visitors, are fit for purpose and economically and environmentally sustainable
An appropriate balance between new provision and the enhancement of existing provision
Clarity and reasonable certainty for developers and land owners in relation to the requirements and expectations of local planning authorities in respect of open space and sport and recreation provision
PPG 17 Compliant Audits are undertaken as part of our Greenspace Performance Management System.
Many thanks for the time and effort you took to give us such a comprehensive demonstration of your Greenspace Performance Management Service last week and for answering all our questions so thoroughly. My colleagues and I were very impressed with the range of benefits your package has to offer us .We believe it will go a long way to meeting our obligations under PPG 17 but has added value in areas that are of special interest to us at the present i.e. CPA and Performance Management. We would like to employ your specialist expertise and services and to subject Eastleigh's open spaces to your assessment process.
Phil Lomax, Eastleigh Borough Council
Our approach would provide you with detailed reports and produce a long term plan for the management of all of your sites, including training to allow your staff to undertake regular auditing from the customer's perspective in the future. These staff would be trained to be able to carry out audits on either your own sites or those of other councils who are using the system.
The end result would be an ongoing consultation and auditing system linked to GIS, that would allow you to show continuous improvement, identify priorities and the needs of the community. The public are extensively involved in the System and it is a good way of setting up and/or reviewing Friends Groups too.
